The federal government has provided the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) with resources for higher education institutions that will help them to address the immediate impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on students and colleges.

In the summer of 2022, fall of 2022 and Spring of 2023 terms, these grants range from $150 to $900 which is based on the student’s needs and the number of units they were enrolled in this semester.

What Is The General Grant?
Every Fall 2021 NNU student will take at least 1 credit that is issued the General Grant of $150.00 in HEERF funds. Students will sign up for these funds by accessing the NNU student portal and direct on how the HEERF funds will be issued.
What Is The Standard Block Grant?
The federal government directed universities to prioritize students with exceptional financial needs. NNU wants to give economic relief quickly to students that have experienced additional expenses or loss of income due to the pandemic.
Therefore, the HEERF III emergency aid funds have been used to provide standard relief grants to students that will meet eligibility criteria that are based on students’ FAFSA information and other financial factors.
The certain criteria for the NNU Federal Emergency Relief Fund Standard Vlock Grant awarded in Fall 2021 are as follows:
- Undergraduate or graduate student in a degree program that is enrolled in at least 1 credit for Fall 2021 Semester.
- You have to meet the normal requirements for the federal under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965.
- The 2021-22 FAFSA is on the record with the NNU’s Financial Aid Office.
- The demonstrated financial need.
Requirements For The Application
Firstly you need to complete the application form.
Then you have to submit the documentation of expenses that includes copies of billing statements or receipts are required.
If you request the aid that will help with the medical or dental costs, invoice treatment plans to the medical provider that will be submitted.
The Vaden Health Center can assist with necessary insurance statements. You can only be reimbursed for the expenses not covered by insurance.

Then you have to submit the student and spouse’s latest federal income tax return. It won’t be required to be submitted a FAFSA or the previously submitted tax forms of the Financial Aid Office.

Review can vary based on the time of year, generally, notification will be sent after two or four weeks it will be submitted and received.
What Is The Special Consideration Grant?
This grant will be available to students that need support financially that is not identified in the FAFSA or students that have not previously filed the FAFSA.
Students that don’t meet up with the awarding requirements for the Federal Relief Fund III standard grant, but that has incurred substantial financial hardship due to COVID-19, can apply for special consideration.
A portion of the HEERF III funds will be directed to help these students. To apply for special consideration, you have to access the Special Consideration Application with the NNU student Portal. Sometimes students can be asked to file the FAFSA.
When Will Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds Be Available?
General Grants and Standard Blovl Grants can be disbursed during the fall (2021) and spring (2022) semesters. Special Consideration Fund awards can be disbursed when applications are approved throughout the school year until funds will be depleted. Recipients are notified through messages to their NNU email account that will be awarded HEERF III relief funds.
