Job Description

• Our client is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain robust backend systems that support secure, scalable, and high-performance financial platforms operating across multiple regions.

Job Summary

• The Senior Backend Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining core backend services that power cross-border transaction processing, data management, and business-critical systems. This role requires strong expertise in system design, database architecture, performance optimization, and security best practices. The engineer will play a key role in ensuring system reliability, scalability, and compliance while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure backend systems that support cross-border financial operations.
• Build and manage core services responsible for transaction processing, data storage, reconciliation, and reporting.
• Architect backend solutions with a strong focus on performance, fault tolerance, scalability, and data consistency.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and infrastructure teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Optimize system performance through efficient database design, caching strategies, and background processing.
• Implement robust testing strategies, including unit, integration, and performance testing, to ensure system stability.
• Monitor production systems, troubleshoot issues, and implement long-term fixes to improve reliability and uptime.
• Ensure adherence to security best practices, data protection standards, and regulatory requirements relevant to cross-border financial systems.
• Maintain clear technical documentation, including system architecture, data flows, and operational guidelines.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers, promoting best practices and code quality.
• Continuously evaluate and adopt appropriate technologies, tools, and engineering practices to improve backend systems.

Requirements

• First Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of backend engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of complex systems.
• Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Java, Python, Node.js, or Go.
• Solid experience working with relational and non-relational databases, including schema design and performance tuning.
• Experience building distributed systems and handling high-throughput, low-latency workloads.
• Strong understanding of system security, data integrity, and access control in financial or regulated environments.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and deployment workflows (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems, and modern software development practices.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in fast-paced environments.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in cross-functional teams.
