Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organisation (WEWE) is a not-for-profit, Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that was founded in 2004 by Josephine Ogazi and Joseph Egwuonwu. WEWE started out as a Community Based Organisation (CBO) with the aim of providing scholarships and economic empowerment to orphans and widows in Okigwe, Imo State and has since expanded its aims and objectives.

Job Title: Compliance Officer (Trainee Program)

Location: Abuja
Duration: 1 Year Program

Overview

  • The Incorporated Trustees of Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization (WEWE) is implementing a one (1) year Graduate Trainee Program for talented graduates of Higher Institutions to start their careers in the NGO sector.
  • WEWE has a ‘Trainee Program’ where we offer on-the-job training to talented/award-winning individuals, who have no previous NGO working experience and would like to gain experience working on international donor-funded projects: e.g., USAID, US CDC & EU; and learning about NGO issues in relation to the position highlighted above.

    • Are you currently working in a private firm?

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist to ensure full compliance with donor’s financial rules and regulations.
  • Assist to ensure strict adherence to WEWE internal policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Assist to secure adherence to Nigerian rules and regulations as it relates to WEWE’s operational activities.
  • Assist to ensure withholding tax is remitted within a short period of deduction by the organization.
  • Assist to ensure PAYE tax is remitted to the relevant tax authority.
  • Assist to ensure monthly remittance of staff pension benefits to the relevant pension managers by the Organization.
  • Assist in the processing of all regulatory bodies’ compliance certificates.
  • Assist in periodically Identifying compliance issues that require remediation.
  • Assist to file and document compliance activities and reports with regulatory agencies.
  • Assist to report to management and the Board of Directors on compliance issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma in Accounting from a recognized higher institution.
  • Must possess a minimum of second-class upper/Upper credit certificate from a recognized higher institution.
  • ICAN or ACCA qualification.

Required Experience:

  • Must have 1 – 2 years’ experience in managing similar responsibilities.
  • Excellent report-writing skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Ability to work long hours when needed.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Technology suave i.e., ability to use social media handles, the internet, and to send an email, etc.

Salary and Benefits
The benefits of the trainee positions are:

  • Salary between N50,000 – N100, 000 monthly to cover transportation costs, meals, incidentals, and pension.
  • After a successful interview and performance evaluation, trainees are eligible to apply for full-time positions in WEWE subject to vacancies and availability of funds.

  • S/he will assist to carry out daily procurement activities.
  • S/he will assist in full compliance of procurement activities with WEWE rules, regulations, policies, and strategies.
  • S/he will assist in the preparation of procurement plans and their implementation /monitoring.
  • S/he will assist in organizing procurement meetings including preparation.
  • S/he will assist to conduct RFQs or RFPs, and receipt of quotations, bids, or proposals.
  • S/he will assist to raise the Purchase Request form for all requests.
  • S/he will assist to ensure that the products and supplies are of high quality.
  • S/he will assist to work with procurement team members to complete duties as and when due.
  • S/he will assist to review and analyze all vendors/suppliers, supply, and price options.
  • S/he will assist to create and maintain good relationships with vendors/suppliers.
  • S/he will assist to maintain records of the vendor’s database and other important data.
  • S/he will assist in inventory tracking and updating.
  • S/he will assist in administrative activities.
  • S/he will assist staff in creating clear and understandable purchase requests and other documentation, as needed.
  • S/he will assist to ensure that all supplies, services, and equipment required are delivered on time.
  • Carry out all other duties or tasks as assigned by the procurement team lead or management.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree or HND Degree in any Social or Management Science or a relevant field, from a recognized higher institution.
  • Must have a second-class upper or first-class or upper credit or distinction.

Required Experience:

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • S/he will assist to conduct resource mobilization assessments of WEWE and local organizations using USAID Organizational Capacity Assessment Tool (OCAT) in the resource mobilization domain.
  • S/he will assist to develop resource mobilization strategies and plans for WEWE and local organizations from the gaps identified in the resource mobilization assessments.
  • S/he will assist to conduct a mapping of potential and current donors for the organization.
  • S/he will assist to develop a donor mapping report and database for WEWE and other local organizations.
  • S/he will assist to conduct Crowd Funding Campaigns on several online Crowd fundraising sites; Global giving; GoFundMe.
  • S/he will assist to build and negotiate the placement of donation boxes in places of high human transaction traffic.
  • S/he will assist to identify and negotiate positions on consortium applications (Assist local NGOs to search for Large NGOs that are applying for large grants and facilitate opportunities for the local NGO to secure a position in the consortium large bids).
  • S/he will assist to search for funding opportunities on the world wide web.
  • S/he will assist to write the full proposal, concept note, or expression of interest submitted.
  • S/he will assist to develop a social media strategy and content development to take the NGO activities online to have a footprint or a significant social media presence.
  • S/he will assist to organize fundraising dinners or fund-raising events.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree or HND degree in any Social or Management Science or a relevant field from a recognized university.
  • Must have a second-class upper or first-class or upper credit or distinction.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • S/he will assist in identifying and effectively communicating project success by developing success stories, case studies, and short documentaries.
  • S/he will assist in updating and maintaining WEWE’s website, social media platforms, and blogs.
  • S/he will assist in engaging with mainstream media (Electronic and Print) to increase WEWE’s visibility and promote project impact.
  • S/he will assist in editing technical and scientific documents and articles (proofreading, copying, designing, line editing, and substantive editing).
  • S/he will assist in Desktop design and layout of technical documents in compliance with donor branding and marking requirements.
  • S/he will assist in coordinating Outreach and events with experience in developing press releases, media coverage, press fact sheets, developing scene setters, liaising with US Embassy public affairs units, and managing print, radio, and TV media relation journalists and website information management.
  • S/he will assist to Coordinate staff meetings, prepare agendas, and taking minutes of meetings as required.

Qualification Requirements

  • A graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma or its equivalent, who has completed NYSC (or has a written exemption letter) with a First or Second Class Upper Division (2.1) in English, Linguistics, Mass Communication, Journalism, or any Social Science-related fields.
  • Additional certifications in communication or its equivalent will be added advantage.

Experience Required:

  • 1-2 years of working experience as an Information Technology person or any related role.
